Happy Boxcar Busiversary!
It’s hard to believe, but one year ago today the first Boxcar commuter bus took a load of happy, stress-free commuters directly to Midtown. Before that, we were strictly a parking company, helping commuters find convenient parking near their local train stations. Then came the “Summer of Hell,” thanks to New Jersey Transit’s construction plans. With a commuting nightmare imminent we sprang into action, providing up a comfortable, civilized commute for as many people as possible.
Our buses were originally meant to be temporary, a fleeting salve for stranded commuters. In several towns, that’s what happened. Once the trains went back to normal schedules, we went back to focusing on parking. But in Madison and Chatham, our customers loved their new commute so much that we kept it going, and are even looking at ways to expand. We’ve also recently added service in Westfield and Cranford, helping a whole new group of commuters enjoy their mornings a bit more.
Over the past 12 months, more than 1,000 customers have enjoyed over 20,000 rides with Boxcar. And we’ve learned a lot about what works and what doesn’t. We’ve worked hard to provide our riders with a pleasant experience on their way to work, from finding drivers committed to excellence, to tweaking our route and schedule to make things even more convenient. Along the way, we’ve gotten amazing feedback, both positive and negative, from the folks who ride with us every day.
The first year of the Boxcar bus has been busy, but it’s also been fun. We’ve met some amazing people, and everyone on the Boxcar team loves the fact that we can help turn an onerous commute into something people look forward to each morning. So, Happy “busiversary” to all of our riders, and here’s to many more years made #BetterWithBoxcar!
